Evelyn Evelyn in San Francisco on Discord Day!

Posted in Music, Nerd, Personal Updates, Places on May 29th, 2010

We went to San Fran on 5/23 to see Evelyn Evelyn!

What, you haven’t heard of them?  The conjoined twin sister singer-songwriter sensation?

Evelyn Evelyn

Yeah, okay, so it’s just Amanda Palmer & Jason Webley dressed up as conjoined twins, but still fun, damn it! The story is actually really interesting.  Some might even call it disturbing.  They really get into the characters too, which makes it even more fun.

Anyway… we started out fairly bright and early (for us anyway) to drop the parrots off at the birdie hotel and go pick up a rental car.  I like driving rental cars over the mountains because I can punish those little engines in a way I wouldn’t Rick’s Honda.  HA!

Uneventful 4-ish hour ride.  Oh, I DID get a road-couch-cushion stuck to the front of the car for a few miles.  Had to actually pull over to set it free. That was fun.

Road cushion!

We got into the bay area and I tried to find Emperor Norton’s grave… and failed miserably.  In retrospect, I know ALL the wrong turns I took and could probably find it if given another chance, but I wasted an hour driving around.  Just went to the motel at that point because it was getting late and I had to pee.

The motel was two blocks from the concert so we decided to just walk over.  Rick napped while I got ready and we headed out about 15 minutes before the doors opened.  Walked past the historic Mitchell Brothers O’Farrell Theater, a famous tittie bar with live lesbian sex shows where Hunter S. Thompson allegedly worked in the 70s. It was right next door to the concert venue. YAY!

Got in line at the Great American Music Hall (another historic place) & were ushered in shortly after. My friends came!  YAY!  It’s always cool to see Fox & Autumn, but this trip I actually got to meet Sierra!  And we all looked fanfuckingtabulous.

A bunch o' Discordian hawtness

A bunch o’ Discordian hawtness right there, I tell ya!

The opener was a dude named Sxip Shirey.
Oh. My. God.

Honestly, I’m not much for opening bands, but when this man ran his harmonica through the distortion pedal and then bullhorned it… yeah, I was hooked.  TOTALLY love him!  I would honestly call him a modern day Spike Jones.

Sxip

He also has really cool hair.

Then the twins came out and they were awesome.  They really played to the audience and gave a very enjoyable performance.  They skipped the whole child prostitution part of the story, though.  They did the first part of the story of the twins in lightshow puppets.  Very cool.

I love this picture:

The Neville sisters

After that we had some Jason Webley by himself and I was pleasantly surprised by his music.  Will definitely be putting him on the ‘pod.

After Jason,  AFP came out and her crazy ass fans all smooshed around into my personal table space and gave me dirty looks when I shot pictures over their shoulders.  Seriously -  love that woman… hate her fans.

Look at the cutest AFP picture ever!

AFP

It was a very good concert. :)

Afterward I thought about standing in line to get some Jason & Sxip stuff and possibly get another picture taken with Amanda Palmer just to piss Galen off, but I was so damn tired.  We ended up just wading through the homeless beggars and heading to the motel for bed.

Got up early-ish the next morning and went to see a dear old friend:

OMG YODA FOUNTAIN! I believe that Yoda was, indeed, life size.

Here’s the cutest picture ever of me & Rick:

Rick, Lisa & Yoda

We went in the lobby next.  It was like NerdMecca™.

Oh hay boys!

Boba

Of course we had to get our pictures taken with those guys.

Boba & Rick

Vader & me

The lobby was just a big old mess of nerd – all kinda of really cool/interesting books on the shelves, vintage Star Wars/Indiana Jones coffee table books on the tables, replica props all over, small bronzes & dolls of  Star Wars characters… I could have spent a long time just LOOKING.

We walked down the little hill and grabbed some $bux.  There’s a great view of the Palace of Fine Arts from just outside the ‘Bucks inside the Presidio.  I really want to go there sometime.  Oh hell, I just want to wander around the Presidio for a few hours.

We thought about going to Fisherman’s Wharf for some crab and going to Telegraph Hill to look for the cherry head conures, but we really had to be on the road in two hours if we wanted to get back to Reno to get the parrots before the birdie hotel closed.  So we headed to Japan Town instead to try the Korean restaurant there.

On the way there I drove up Webster street.  And when I say “up”, I mean “WAY THE FUCK UP”.  I swear the car was vertical a few times. Crazy ass rollercoaster street, I tell ya.  Seriously, an earthquake there would just tumble cars all the hell down the road.

Oh Japan Town, how I love thee!  Well, actually we just went to the little mall there, didn’t walk around because of time constraints.  After driving around there and trying to park, I can see where certain *cough* racial stereotypes *cough* about a certain demographic’s driving skills have their roots.  I’m sure it’s not universally true, but damn.  LOL.

Ichiban Kan  = love.  So much weird Engrish shit in there and weird snacks at really cheap prices.  I spent too much money on odd little things and, of course, got some more matcha!  For five dolla I got about as much as you can get at the Whole Paycheck for $25.  So nice.

These were taken after we got home, but this is some of my Japan Town haul:

Japan Town haul

Instant miso soup, green tea candy, matcha, matcha with some weird starch shit in it, rice candy and men’s Pocky.

Oh Japan Town!

Look at the cute little dishes & spoons I got for my instant miso!

Japan Town = <3

Lunch time will make everyone happy.  Monotone lunch.  Slow and healthy time.
<3

We waved goodbye to San Francisco and got back on the road for an uneventful drive to Reno.  Then we got the so-happy-to-see-us birdies and went home.

The end.

There are more pics on my facebook.  If you haven’t added me as a friend there… you suck.

Who’s an addict? I’m an addict!

T-shirt of the Friday, etc.

Posted in Nerd, OMG COOL!, P-blog on August 22nd, 2009

Friday was a different Coil t-shirt.  Yes I wore a shirt that has a butt on it to work.

BONUS: nomming tomatoes and a Star Trek USB bracelet from my bosses!  Awwwwww.

trek-nom-coil

I edited out my face because I had an extremely goofy look on it.

Oh, and my Shaun of the Dead came!

I bought him with the Sideshow Collectibles swag gift card I got at Comic-Con.

Pics are kinda shitty, but yes, he does have some red on him.

I guess I still need to do the rest of my Comic-Con posts, huh?

Day 1: the p-blog

Early this morning I got in line to get my badge

What’s that look for?  Probably for this

And that was BEHIND the convention center – not even near the door.

Need to get the 4 day pass next time, this is gonna be REALLY annoying to do every day.

So I walk around & attend a few panels – yay.

I wanted to shoot Amanda Fucking Palmer’s ninja ukulele gig thingy, but I guess I missed a memo because I’m a bad twitwhore and ended up finding her just as she was done.  Dis.

But later I went to the booth she was at & asked her a special favor.  She was very kind and indulged me – even though I haven’t bought her book yet.

afp-write

Hmmmm… I wonder what she’s writing.  Is that a “G” I see there?  What could it be?

OH!  I also found out that AFP’s favorite band is the Legendary Pink Dots!  (I was wearing my Dots shirt.)  How cool is that?

Then she nommed my face for a pic.

afp-nom

I really like her – I’m gonna go draw her tomorrow. :)

Probably won’t go to her show though… Clive Barker is doing a panel at the same time.  And, you know.  He even trumps the Brian Posehn show.

Speaking of…

This is Brian Posehn’s back:

brian-back

Why just his back, you ask?  Because Lisa’s a big chicken and he was too big and too mean looking for me to say “Mr.Posehn, may I have my picture taken with you?”  Yep.  Despite my swagger I’m a bock bock chicken.

THE BRAD TARD IS HERE!  YAAAAAAY!

brad1

I Swear that picture is from today, too.  He just hasn’t aged AT ALL.

Hopefully gonna hook up wit him later/tomorrow & meet his girlfriend, eat babies, etc.

Oh.. so Rick and I are walking, talking about how we haven’t seen the Mile High Comics booth yet when Chuck Rozanski just walks by us.  It was way too funny.  I said “Hey, there’s Chuck” and his daughters heard me and made him stop to say hi.  So we got a picture and told him how much we enjoy his emails/mail order service.

chuck1

Totally the sweetest guy in the world. :)

Here are some other cool things:

You’d think this would be kinda awkward, wouldn’t you?

pervs

My favorite booth so far is the midget with the dirty comics.

<3

Damn it – I’ve been blogging too long – have more shit to do!  Okay, maybe I’m just gonna get more coffee & lay down.  Early day tomorrow.

I’m honestly not sure if I can do this bloggity blogging shit for all four days though, so the 2-4 days might have to be concatenated.

I really wish I would’ve gotten pictures of all the people in spandex who probably shouldn’t be in spandex, though.  Maybe I’ll try that tomorrow.

I miss my birdies something fierce. :(

Okay.

In the list of THINGS THAT DO NOT HAVE TO BE DONE:
A remake of Red Dawn.

Why?

When I was fourteen we would go see that movie everyday.
No, seriously. My mom would make us go to work with her that summer – no idea why, she’s insane – and we’d walk to the movie theater and see Red Dawn.  Every. Day.

Well, for like the two weeks that it ran.  LOL.

I think it had a big part in shaping my post-apocalyptic fantasies.

It was perfect the way it was for the time it was.  It does not need a remake, damn it!

My WoW guild warlord ruined my night with that news last night.  Ass.

It was kinda cool though, because evidently he felt the same way about the movie. After hearing that he also had a 14-year-old’s plan for the Russian invasion, I realized I probably would have let him know the location of my secret base if I knew him when we were kids.

Hmmm.  So updating to Wordpress 2.7 has proven to be not as easy as I thought it would be.  But I need to do it if I want to add Twitter digests to the old blog.

Because I love Twitter now.  Regular Twitwhore, I am.

So… this weekend I think I will be working on a WP upgrade, I think.  Need to research how to convert to 2.7 while maintaining blog/theme integrity.  If anyone has ever updated their Wordpress, please feel free to jump in and offer advice.

Hmmmm.

Sometimes they’re like this when I come in after the weekend.

Makes me wonder what they’ve been up to.

I think Nunzilla can take Obi-Wan, personally.

We need more nerds.

OMG WATCHMEN! *adds to list of favorite movies*
No adaptation of anything as awesome as Watchmen is going to be perfect…. but yes, it was as good as it could have been!

The characters were awesome, they cut out stuff pretty nicely to make it fit the time allotted and the end sans squid thing actually worked. Go see it. I mean NOW. I think we might go see it again this weekend.

Every nerd in Reno was in the theater and we made new nerd friends. :)

Probably should have gotten some phone numbers or something though – lol.

Oh yeeeeeah…

See these sexsay bitches?

They’re gonna roadtrip to see Leonard Cohen!

OMG OMG OMG OMG DEIDRE IS COMING TO RENO! AND WE’RE GONNA ROADTRIP!

(Yes, this is an incredibly old picture; yes, my hair is purple in that picture; yes, that is NDN :( looking in the back window.)

This should prove interesting, because the weirdest things always happen to us when we drive someplace together.

We will be sitting in the balcony – row A.
